Halloween At School!

We are looking forward to a safe and appropriate Halloween experience at school.  Please note that due to COVID-19 precautions and restrictions, the following is not permitted this year:

  • Sharing of treats, candy, food, etc.
  • Hallowe’en dances
  • Costume parades around the school

We encourage safety at all times! We also encourage students to wear appropriate costumes, as well as discourage cultural misappropriation in costumes. Here are some guidelines:

  1. Culture is NOT Costume: We ask that students refrain from using costumes that represent a cultural group or ethnicity. (e.g. First Nations, Chinese, Arabic, etc.)
  2. Masks are Discouraged (Except for PPE): Wearing costume masks during the school day can compromise the safety of the community. We should always be identifiable in our community so we can avoid having unwelcome guests. Please be sure that you are wearing your PPE mask (grade 4-8) and of course, younger grades are always encouraged their PPE mask as well along with their costume.
  3. Awareness of Costume Appropriateness is Important: Discourage costumes that are not appropriate to the moral tone of our Catholic Schools.
  4. Awareness of Fear and Evil: Be aware that Ghoulish costumes can terrify younger students, students with special needs, or students with phobias.
  5. We Must Be Trauma-Sensitive: There may be members within our school who have traumas that can be triggered by certain costumes. (Blood, Hanging, etc)
  6. When in Doubt, Think Saint: Hallowe’en precedes All Soul’s and All Saint’s Days.

Let’s have a safe and fun Halloween!
